The Mist Review

The Mist. I'm pissed, and I've got a message to Hollywood about a new trend in movies.
possible spoilers after the cut...

STOP SHOOTING KIDS! And I don't mean with the camera, I mean with a .357 to the face. I could overlook it in Planet Terror, because it was supposed to be over the top, although it didn't really sit well with me. But in The Mist, it was completely unnecessary and just plain vulgar.
Don't get me wrong, I love exploitation and horror. I love bad taste, but "leave them kids alone!" NOT COOL.
Alright, on to the movie. Things that pissed me off:
The constant spelling out of every detail. In the end, I was bored, annoyed and disturbed. People are calling the ending brave. I call it desperate. Lame.i.e. (ground shakes knocking over shelves) Man: That was an Earthquake! Man "We have four bullets." Woman "But there are five of us!" No shit! I can count! The perfect cross section of human stereotypes in the store. The hicks, the religious nut, the city slicker, the snob, the soldier (who's made up like a silent film actress - arguably the scariest part of the movie.) It's like Gilligan's Island in there! The fact that everyone refers to the mist as "mist" and no one ever says fog.Wouldn't one person say "It's foggy."? It's like a bad word in this movie. "I haven't the mistiest idea what's going on here!"It could have been half an hour shorter if they didn't over-emphasize the craziness of the religious lady.
Maybe because there's a better movie called "The Fog"?I figured out she was annoying in about 3 minutes, don't keep needling me!There is nothing scary about the mist or what's in it.We haven't seen CGI like this since Playstation! Tentacles? Land-Squid? What the hell, man!?The use of military experiments as a cause of supernatural events. Not only is it hackneyed, but the military can't even handle real life situations in Iraq. They're going to open an Inter-dimensional rift? George Bush? John Ashcroft? Blackwater? Please....Grunting.Thomas Jane plays a hairless ape. Grunt Grunt! Roaaaar!
